Northern California’s Shasta County is putting on a rare show of fall color, with vibrant red, orange, and yellow leaves surrounding Burney Falls, Lake Britton, and Baum Lake. Photographer Mercedes Lane says the best viewing is from mid-October to mid-November, when the forests near Burney burst into full color. Visitors can explore the newly renovated trail at Burney Falls, enjoy mirror-like reflections at Lake Britton, and spot wildlife around Baum Lake. The area, sacred to the Pit River Tribe, offers a unique and respectful way to experience autumn in Northern California.
