DUI laws will get stricter in Oklahoma starting Nov.1. The new law changes what will be considered aggravated DUI.
The hope is that it will be impactful enough to help drivers think before getting behind the wheel.
In October 2020, Jeff and Kristy Murrow lost their 19-year-old daughter, Marissa Murrow, to drunk driver Malcolm Penney.
“He got on going the wrong direction and hit her head on, on the highway when she was driving home,” said Jeff.
Police say this was the fifth DUI offense for Penney.
Since that day, the Murrows have used their pain to push for change.
Earlier this year, the Marissa Murrow Act went into law and Saturday another bill that redefines aggravated DUI takes effect.
