TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Two federal judges made ruling Friday ahead of lapse in funding for SNAP benefits. One judge said it’s unlawful to withhold funding for food stamps. The other judge directed the Trump Administration to tap into the contingency funds as soon as possible, and the administration has to give the judge an update next week.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump directed government lawyers to ask for clarification from the courts on how to fund SNAP legally with additional monies in reserves.
Friday morning, Agriculture Secretary Brook Rollins said claims that the Trump administration could use reserve funding were false.
“If Hurricane Melissa hits, that's the contingency fund that we would use to send more money into the vulnerable communities,” Rollins said.
