EWA BEACH (HawaiiNewsNow) - As the number and severity of e-bike injuries increase statewide , Honolulu police are cracking down on e-bike-related crimes.
On Friday, officers conducted an e-bike/e-dirt bike operation in the Ewa and Kapolei areas.
According to HPD, three were arrested on suspicion of driving without a license and on warrants of contempt of court.
Police also issued ten citations, fifteen warnings, and recovered three e-dirt bikes, said officials.
HPD said high-speed e-dirt bikes are not approved for use on roadways and are extremely dangerous.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation reported 110 people have died in traffic fatalities this year.
About a third of those deaths were motorcyclists, moped, and e-scooter riders.
