SMITH COUNTY, Texas — A Smith County jury handed down a life sentence for a man who sexually assaulting a child in Louisiana and Texas.

Corydario Grant was convicted after a trial held in the Smith County Courthouse. According to a Facebook post from the Overton Police Department, the assaults in Texas happened in Rusk and Smith counties.

Grant was arrested by the OPD in March 2024, and what followed was an investigation that lasted 10 months, the Overton police said.

"After sufficient evidence was obtained, the case was set for trial in Smith County, with testimony beginning on Oct. 28, 2025," the OPD said in their Facebook post.

The jury ultimately decided on a life sentence.
