Just days after Hurricane Melissa swept through Jamaica and Haiti, locals are working to pick up the pieces.

According to the Associated Press, the storm that slammed into Jamaica on Tuesday, October 28, as a category 5 hurricane killed at least 19 people on that island and another 31 in Haiti.

The recovery has just begun for those who call Jamaica home and the tourists who now can't leave.

One Erie native, Edward Fisher, is stuck in Negril, Jamaica, where he arrived on vacation 2 weeks ago.

Fisher said he and others have been taking refuge in a local hotel until the area recovers.
