(KPTV) - In Tillamook, Taylor Tarpley is not just handing out candy this Halloween — she is turning her front porch into a neighborhood food pantry for trick-or-treaters.
“I don’t want to see kids go hungry,” she said. “And so, of course, I went out and bought a bunch of food.”
Tarpley said she came up with the idea after learning nearly 800,000 Oregonians were in danger of losing their SNAP benefits on Saturday.
“It’s always been on my heart to help people that need it because I was one of those families when I was young,” she said. ”My dad was disabled, so he was unable to work and, my mom had to stay home with kids, and so we relied on food stamps. We didn’t have a lot extra and sometimes, we didn’t even have that.”
