MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – A man serving a seven-year sentence in a fatal bar shooting in Minot is asking the courts for a new trial.
A jury convicted Travis McDermott in Jan. 2024 of manslaughter and reckless endangerment, in the May 2023 shooting death of Greyson Sletto.
Prosecutors say McDermott fatally shot Greyson Sletto during an altercation at The Original Bar & Nightclub
In February the North Dakota Supreme Court upheld the conviction, ruling against an appeal.
According to court records, McDermott applied for what’s known as post-conviction relief. In his application, McDermott claims the prosecution pushed a falsehood that he illegally purchased a firearm.
McDermott also said he believed North Dakota laws regarding ‘stand your ground’ afforded him the ability to defend himself. He
