Players from the Rice girls soccer team thought they lost the Division II girls soccer championship game twice Friday night, once in regulation and another in double overtime. They overcame that challenge both times, but none bigger than in double overtime.
Senior Reese Billings dominated all game from her spot as the right wing. Billings sent numerous crosses into the box to her teammates and shots on target, but none could get past the goal. That changed with under two minutes left in double overtime.
Billings corralled a loose ball and fired a strike that banged into the top of the goal sending No. 1 Rice (12-2-3) to a 2-1 double overtime victory over No. 2 Harwood, giving the Green Knights their first championship since 2022.
"It's rewarding," Green Knights coach Aubrey Ouellet
