Pumpkins didn’t stand a chance today at Northwoods Fine Arts Academy, where students carried on a decade-long Halloween tradition called the 'Pumpkin Chunkin.'
“Chunk the Pumpkin!”
As soon as the noon bell rang, students raced outside, wearing their favorite Halloween costumes and chanting: "Chunk the pumpkin!”
Then came a Sasquatch emerging from the woods.
“The little mannequins on the hill get all chunked down with pumpkins,” one student explained. “We all make a bet which one will be the last one standing.”
Another laughed, saying: "I’m eyeballing that penguin!”
The Big Smash
Pumpkins rolled and tumbled down the hill until “They crash," one student explained.
That’s when the crowd favorite happened.
"Mr. John smashing them with a giant mallet," a student explained.
