Brady Stonehouse scored twice and the Komets went 2 for 6 on the power play in a 5-3 win over the Iowa Heartlanders on Friday in front of 812 fans at the Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa.
The Komets (4-1-0) went up 4-1 on a James Stefan power-play goal at 10:57 of the second period, assisted by city native Alex Aleardi and Josh Groll. Iowa cut the lead in half with 38 seconds remaining in the period and made it 4-3 just 34 seconds into the third on Jaxson Nelson’s goal.
Stonehouse iced the game with his second goal of the gamer, this one unassisted, at 15:37.
The Komets went ahead 3-1 just 1:03 into the second period on a goal by Stonehouse, assisted by Dru Krebs and Tyler Inamoto.
