BRAINERD — Pierz’s defense proved scary Friday, Oct. 31.
The No. 2-seeded Pioneers allowed 40 yards and shut out the top-seeded Pequot Lakes Patriots 35-0 in the Section 7-3A Final at Brainerd High School.
Pequot, which averaged 43.0 points per game, recorded two first downs, with one in each half. The Pioneers intercepted Pequot quarterback Blake Spiczka for the first time all season. Pequot went 0-of-8 on third down and 0-of-3 on fourth down with 33 plays.
Pierz totaled 321 yards of offense, with 253 rushing yards. The Pioneers recorded 23 first downs.
“I could not be more proud of our kids,” Pierz head coach Danny Saehr said. “Our defensive coaches did a phenomenal job and put together a great game plan. We could not have asked for better execution from our kids from all three level
