Cher van Schouwen’s art has been seen around the world but her upcoming exhibition in West Leederville will be her first in her adopted state since moving to WA 14 years ago.

Emergence will feature more than 25 new artworks inspired by Australia’s landscapes and described by the artist as her most authentic works to date.

That’s a striking shift in style for van Schouwen, who is better known for producing vibrant portraits and whimsical florals.

“I completely surprised myself,” the Swanbourne local told Western Suburbs Weekly.

“Something about the Australian landscape just lit something up in me.”

Van Schouwen is applying the finishing touches to her showcase, which will be on display during November at Gallery 360 in West Leederville.
