CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Most federal employees have not received pay for more than three weeks and there is still no end in sight for the federal government shutdown.
Talk about furloughed employees not receiving back pay has sparked concern that these employees may have to take on more debt and cut spending to make ends meet. This lack of spending and increased personal debt for thousands of federal employees could cause ripples for months or even years to come.
“It may take years for some of these people to reestablish the financial foundation and the security and the safety net that they had before they had to dip into their savings,” said West Virginia University economist John Deskins.
