Jack Garceau sat on his couch and stared at his TV in horror.
He could hardly believe the scene he just saw: Cam Skattebo leaping for a pass in Sunday’s Giants -Eagles game, only to land awkwardly and have his ankle twist and crack so violently that a piece of bone poked through his skin.
The dislocated ankle required emergency surgery to prevent infection and robbed the Giants of their rookie running back sensation for the remainder of this year, though his expected six-month recovery window means he should be ready for the start of next season.
It also delivered a gut punch to Garceau and everyone back in Rio Linda, California, Skattebo’s hometown, a blue-collar community of 16,000 people just north of Sacramento.
But Garceau, who coached Skattebo at Rio Linda High, has no doubt
