Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has thrown his support behind China hosting next year’s APEC summit, declaring it in Australia’s interest to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties with Beijing despite ongoing trade tensions.
Speaking in South Korea at the close of the 2025 APEC leaders’ meeting, Mr Albanese said China remained a key trading partner for Australia and a central player in maintaining global economic stability.
“They're a major economy, they're Australia's major trading partner, Australia's supporter,” he said speaking about China and their ability to host APEC next year.
“It's an important relationship for Australia. If we look at our exports, almost about 30 per cent go to China. It is in Australia's interest to engage with China, that is what I have done.”
