WAILUKU (HawaiiNewsNow) - On this Halloween, there are no distractions for the dozens of attorneys involved in the $4 billion Maui wildfire settlement working with Judge Peter Cahill to get money into the hands of survivors as fast as possible.
“This is going to be a quick turnaround. So, you guys better be telling your staff they’re going to be burning the midnight oil. There will be no holidays this year,” Cahill said.
Cahill made it clear: he wants the first checks distributed before the end of the year to the nearly 24,000 victims who have filed claims using personal attorneys.
“We’ll have Christmas in July. Tell your staff and make sure you write big bonus checks for everyone too and I mean big ones,” he said.
