Casakids to begin taking food donations
As of Friday afternoon, the federal government’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) won’t be fully funded this month because of the ongoing government shutdown.
The State of New Mexico announced earlier this week that it would provide $30 million in SNAP so the program would be funded for just over a week.
It was also reported on Friday that two federal district court judges have ruled that SNAP benefits must be provided while the matter plays out in court.
Local concern about hunger remains as the situation is changing rapidly. Casakids announced it would collect food, starting this coming Monday.
