At least nine devotees were killed and several others injured in a stampede at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Kasibugga town of Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district on Saturday. Rescue operations are underway, and officials said the death toll may rise. Disturbing visuals from the temple premises showed devotees lying motionless on the ground in the aftermath of the tragedy.

According to a statement from the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the stampede took place when a large crowd assembled at the temple for the Ekadashi celebrations, leading to overcrowding and chaos. Several devotees sustained injuries and were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
