ORCHARD PARK - Reggie Gilliam was posed the question the other day regarding whether, for him, is it better to score a touchdown or to blow up a defender with one of his crunching blocks to help a teammate get into the end zone?

Any hockey player worth his salt will tell you that getting an assist is every bit as fulfilling as scoring a goal, and in Gilliam’s case, his assists come when he gets out in front of James Cook and clears a path, something he did with distinction last week in Carolina.

“There’s nothing more rewarding than getting a block and feeling James cut off your hip, and you just look up and it’s like, you know, once he gets to the second level, that’s it,” Gilliam said.
