: The late Zubeen Garg’s final musical, Roi Roi Binale, has achieved what few thought possible — it has brought Assam’s dormant single-screen theatres back to life.
In the days leading up to its October 31 release, several long-shuttered cinema halls across the state were cleaned, repaired, and reopened to welcome audiences eager to watch the much-awaited film.
In Jagiroad, Morigaon district, the iconic Ganesh Talkies — closed since the COVID-19 lockdown — is among those preparing for a grand reopening. “People kept asking us to reopen,” said an official from the theatre. “We are cleaning and testing everything. The excitement is unbelievable. The audience wants to see Roi Roi Binale, and we are reopening for them.”
