SALT LAKE CITY — The No. 2 Fremont Silverwolves narrowly escaped the second round of the 5A high school playoffs with a 31-27 win over the No. 15 Alta Hawks on Friday.
The first half was smooth sailing for Fremont. They won each of the first two quarters and led 17-13 at the break.
The Hawks turned the heat up in the third quarter, taking their first lead behind a touchdown pass to Ber Strong. After a Fremont response, they took the lead right back on the ensuing possession and led 27-24 going into the fourth.
The Silverwolves buckled down in the final quarter, holding strong on defense and regaining the lead to avoid the upset.
Fremont will face No. 7 Brighton on Friday, November 7, in the quarterfinals.
