Nine people died after a stampede broke out at the Venkateswara Swamy temple at Kasibugga, in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district, on Saturday, on the occasion of Ekadashi. The number of casualties was confirmed by the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, S Abdul Nazeer. Reports said that many others were also injured. The incident occurred due to overcrowding and panic among pilgrims.

After the deadly accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took to the social media website X to share his condolences over the death of nine pilgrims in the Andhra Pradesh temple stampede. He said that an ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives.
