Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday launched a strong attack on the Centre, accusing it of neglecting Kannada while “imposing” Hindi, and warned that overdependence on English and Hindi was eroding the natural talent of children in the state. His remarks come amid the ongoing language row over three-language policy.

Speaking at the Rajyotsava Day celebrations in Bengaluru, the Chief Minister said the federal structure was being undermined as Karnataka continued to be denied its fair share of resources, despite contributing significantly to the national exchequer.

“The federal government is meting out step-motherly treatment to Karnataka,” Siddaramaiah said. “We contribute Rs 4.5 lakh crore in revenue to the Centre, but receive only a paltry amount in return.”
