One thing that has stood out about Montreal’s 2025 municipal election campaign, which is now nearing the finish line, is the high level of indecision among voters.

In poll after poll from mid-August until mid-October, more Montrealers said they didn’t know who to choose as their next mayor than backed any particular candidate. Even two weeks before voting day, nearly a third were still making up their minds.

There are five main contenders in the race to replace two-term outgoing Mayor Valérie Plante. They are Ensemble Montréal’s Soraya Martinez Ferrada, Projet Montréal’s Luc Rabouin, Transition Montréal’s Craig Sauvé, Action Montréal’s Gilbert Thibodeau and Futur Montréal’s Jean-François Kacou.
