A county in Central New York had one of the highest rates of cancer in the state in a five-year period from 2018 to 2022.

Oswego County had a cancer rate during that span of 544.2 cases per 100,000 people, the third-highest rate in New York, according to data from the state Department of Health . The 2018-2022 data is the most recent available.

Cortland County was No. 6 statewide during that period, with a cancer rate of 537 cases per 100,000 people.

Onondaga County was 29th statewide for the 2018-2022 period. The county cancer rate in that time was 502.9 cases per 100,000 people.

The state average during the period was 466.8.

Cayuga, Madison and Oneida counties also had cancer rates that were higher that the state average from 2018 to 2022.
