Two men who conned people out of £100,000 through unfinished building jobs have been convicted. Steven Fidler and Kristien Hunt promised to complete projects for people across the Midlands, but then disappeared.
Eleven people reported being scammed by Fidler and Hunt between November 2019 and December 2021. Victims had received quotes for building or decorating jobs, but after making payments, the work was either left unfinished or completed to an unsatisfactory standard.
When the victims complained, Fidler, 39, and 47-year-old Hunt vanished. Police discovered that the pair had taken on multiple projects simultaneously and often gave vague excuses for their inability to complete the jobs.
