Tributes have been pouring in for 'cult hero' Willie Young, after his death at the age of 73.

The Edinburgh-born footballer made 236 appearances for Arsenal after kicking off his career back in 1969, reports the Daily Star . The club's official statement on X read: "We are saddened to learn of the passing of former player Willie Young. Making 236 appearances and winning the FA Cup in 1979, the Scottish defender was a cult hero at Highbury.

"Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Willie."

Young kicked off his career in 1969 at Aberdeen before making the move to England in 1975. The defender signed for Tottenham Hotspur, where he netted four goals in 59 appearances.
