MONROE, Frenchtown Township — A 15-year-old boy is dead after being struck by a driver early Saturday in Frenchtown Township.
The crash happened at 1:30 a.m. Saturday on northbound N. Telegraph Road and south of Paree Street, according to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough.
Based on a preliminary investigation, the victim, identified by authorities as a 15-year-old boy from Carleton, was walking southbound on the northbound shoulder close to the white fog line with a 14-year-old friend from Newport at the time of the crash. A 31-year-old driver from Newport struck the victim before stopping in a gas station parking lot north of the crash.
The driver initially was not aware that she had struck the victim and thought she had hit an object instead, the sheriff said in a press release. Af
