Police have uncovered one of their largest ever cannabis factories, housed within a former casino, believed to be worth millions of pounds.

Officers descended on the disused Aspers casino in Northampton town centre around 9am on Thursday, October 30.

Thousands of plants at various stages of growth were discovered across multiple floors of the Commercial Street building.

Northamptonshire Police described the find as one of the largest cannabis factories in the county's history.

Officers gained entry to the building by using chainsaws to break through, revealing a "very organised" setup across several rooms.

They also found numerous doors bricked up and rooms reinforced with steel in an attempt to deter police.
