An out-of-control Halloween party in Perth 's south-east was broken up by police after hundreds of teenagers turned up - many of them gatecrashers.

Two officers were allegedly assaulted while dispersing the crowd at the Byford home last night, landing two party goers in the lock-up overnight.

What started as a Halloween party soon turned more trick than treat when Linton Street North was flooded with more than 400 people.

"It was not the owner's fault at all," neighbour Jean told 9News.

"These kids appeared from nowhere and it was the owner that called the police because I saw him afterwards and he was very concerned."
