GARDINER – A 77-year-old Gardiner woman was killed when a large tree fell and crushed the cab of a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado in which she was a passenger early Friday afternoon, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Deputies said the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Route 44-55 when the tree fell and crushed the cab of the truck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 79-year-old Gardiner man, was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie for what police said were potentially serious injuries.

The names of the victims of the 12:45 p.m. accident on October 31 were withheld pending notification of relations.
