RIDGEFIELD — Over the past eight school years, the Ridgefield Lions have performed annual vision screening on students in early learning programs, kindergarten, and first, second, third, fifth and seventh grades. The screening helps identify students who may need glasses.
The Lions use Plusoptix S20 digital vision screeners that instantly check whether vision is within norms or the patient needs to be referred for an eye examination. These high-tech devices are so efficient that a class of 25 elementary children can be screened in just 10 minutes, using four machines. The machines are owned by the Salmon Creek Lions; licensing and maintenance are subsidized by the Ridgefield Lions in exchange for their use.
During the 2024-25 school year, some 1,814 students were screened in Ridgefield P
