CHICAGO — A crash along the Eisenhower Expressway on the city's West Side left two people dead early Saturday morning.

According to Illinois State police troopers, the crash unfolded around 3 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-290, near South Kostmer Avenue, in West Garfield Park.

Troopers did not provide details on how many cars were involved or what led up to the crash, but said they were first called to the scene following a report of a double fatal crash.

Authorities did not provide specific details about the incident or identify either of the victims killed.

It remains unclear what led up to the crash and an investigation is underway.

Due to the crash, the eastbound lanes of I-290 were briefly shut down and traffic was diverted off at Cicero Avenue.
