From the Newsroom: Former editor left big shoes to fill

Ihave big shoes to fill in writing this column. Craig Brown-sized shoes, to be more precise. As our former editor here at The Columbian, Craig always seemed to have something to write about in From the Newsroom. Sometimes I scour through his old columns to see what he wrote to get inspiration for the topics of my weekly column. He’s written about newsroom updates, our sometimes quirky culture, problems we’ve faced, what other newspapers are doing compared with ours and much more.

This column is a way to connect with you readers today but also a way to let future employees, descendants and historians get a glimpse into what we journalists are doing and thinking. Much like what I’m doing when I look at Craig’s old columns and see the history of our newsroom unfolding.

Since my very first d
