LAUREL — Laurel food truck owner and chef Miguel Hernandez's Mexican fare made the Top 5 in the World Food Championships earlier this month.

Judges rated his Mexican sandwich fresh and tasty, but then if you have ever grabbed dinner at his food truck La Taqueria, you already know that. Hundreds of foodies across Yellowstone County and his family from California and Mexico followed Miguel and his daughter Elizabeth's journey via Facebook to Indianapolis for the World Food Championships in mid-October.

The 1,400-mile drive each way turned out well worth it for the Hernandez family.

"It's hard for me to comprehend that a little kid from Tijuana can make it this far," Hernandez said. "All I wanted to do was offer the food I grew up with."
