NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Newport News Waterworks announced it will temporarily suspend water service shutoffs for non-payment starting Monday, Nov. 3, in response to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The suspension, coordinated with the Hampton Roads Sanitation District, applies to all Newport News Waterworks customers.
“Newport News Waterworks understands that the federal government shutdown may be creating hardships for some of our customers,” the utility said in a statement.
Officials said Newport News Waterworks will continue to monitor the situation and reassess the decision as the shutdown evolves.
