COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKBN) - It's deer season, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is reminding everyone to be careful. Crashes increase in early November as deer breeding begins, and it's the end of daylight saving time.
There were 438 deer strikes in Trumbull County in 2024, 433 in Mahoning, and 307 in Columbiana. In PennDOT’s northwest region, which includes Crawford, Erie, Forest, Mercer, Venango, and Warren counties, there were 566 deer-related crashes last year, the highest since 2020.
The average cost of damage is between $2,500 and $4,000.
“This is the time of year when deer pose a serious threat to those traveling on our roadways, so it's important that drivers stay alert,” said Governor Mike DeWine. “I encourage all drivers to commit to driving defensively, particularly during
