While Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham didn't rule out the possibility of a special session when she announced a $30 million plan to partially and temporarily backfill federal food aid benefits amid a government shutdown, a Republican state senator said lawmakers could be called back in Santa Fe as early as Nov. 10.

"In a nutshell, MLG is prepared to spend $280M to backfill SNAP benefits to those receiving it now which included non-citizens," Sen. Jim Townsend of Artesia wrote Thursday in a Facebook post with more than 245 "shares," referring to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Townsend said a special session on or close to Nov. 10 is generating pushback.
