CLEVELAND — Federal investigators are looking into a near-collision between a Southwest Airlines passenger jet and a Eurocopter helicopter that occurred near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport earlier this week.
The National Transportation Safety Board announced Friday that it is sending a team to investigate the “loss of separation event,” which took place on Oct. 29.
The incident occurred when a Boeing 737, operated by Southwest Airlines, was inbound to the airport. A helicopter was operating in the vicinity of Hopkins when they came closer than the minimum safe distance required.
Officials have not released details about how close the aircraft came to each other or whether any evasive maneuvers were taken. No injuries or damage have been reported.
