A UN expert on Friday called for urgent and specialized protection measures to address the widespread and systematic conflict-related child trafficking that arose from the failure to ensure their rights.
In her recent report to the General Assembly, Siobhán Mullally, the special rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, stated:
Despite consistent and credible evidence of the prevalence of child trafficking and its strategic use in conflict situations, the prevention, protection and impunity gaps persist, with devastating consequences for children who are denied their childhood, their right to protection as children and their rights to life, survival and development.
