JACKSON, Miss. - Sugary foods and drinks may not be covered under SNAP benefits in Mississippi much longer.
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves announced on Friday that he's requested a waiver from the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service to ban the purchase of "unhealthy processed foods and beverages" using Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. He's also requested a waiver to allow the purchase of hot prepared chicken using SNAP benefits.
