TUCSON, Ariz. ( KOLD /Gray News) - Two University of Arizona students were killed and a third was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash near the campus on Thursday.
The university identified Sophia Troetel, 21, and Josiah Santos, 22, as the students who lost their lives.
According to the Tucson Police Department, the crash occurred near 2nd Street and Euclid around 11 p.m.
Police said the driver, 19-year-old Louis John Artal, was speeding that night in a 2019 Porsche Boxster when he hit the students, who were in a marked crosswalk. According to officers, Artal was also impaired.
The 19-year-old is facing two counts of second-degree murder, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of leaving the scene of a collision involving a fatality.
