TINLEY PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- Inside Englewood's Carrie Bond Elementary School, generosity is being passed out one grocery bag at a time, thanks to the kindness of a 7-year-old boy getting ready to celebrate his birthday.

Alex Anning said he wanted to host the food giveaway "because it looked like it might be fun."
Instead of having a big birthday party, Alex chose to organize a community food giveaway to help hundreds of people in need in this community.
His selflessness couldn't come at a more important time, as SNAP benefits lapsed for millions of people amid the government shutdown on Saturday.
With the help of his mom, he handed out grocery bags packed milk, bread, canned foods and deserts - no questions asked.
