The century-old La Tulipe concert hall can turn up the volume again. Quebec’s Superior Court has lifted an injunction that barred it from making noise.
In a ruling Friday, Judge Patrick Ferland said the previous order against the Plateau-Mont-Royal venue was now “null and void” after changes to the borough’s noise bylaw, as first reported by Le Journal de Montréal. The decision reverses a judgment that forced La Tulipe to close last year following a neighbour’s complaint.
Noise complaints have led to fines and closings for several bars and venues across Montreal in recent years. It has since become a point of debate in this year’s municipal election.
