DALLAS — SMU has signed head football coach Rhett Lashlee to a contract extension, the university announced Saturday.

Terms of the contract weren't disclosed, but sources told ESPN that the new deal is set to place Lashlee among the 10 highest-paid coaches in college football. Lashlee and SMU previously agreed to a contract extension in November of 2024. ESPN reports that extension was through 2030. ESPN reports the new deal extends Lashlee's contract by two seasons, through 2032.

He's in his fourth season with SMU and led the Mustangs to an American Conference championship in 2023, the program's first league title since the Pony Express days of the 1980s. Last season, Lashlee guided the Mustangs to the College Football Playoff in their first year as an ACC member, ESPN reports.
