MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly solo-vehicle crash that happened on Saturday morning in Madera County.
CHP responded to Avenue 14, west of Road 9, shortly before 6:00 a.m.
At the scene, officers found a 79-year-old man from Fresno behind the wheel of a silver 2011 Toyota Camry.
Officials say the man was heading westbound on Avenue 14 at an unknown speed and, for unknown reasons, failed to recognize the end of the roadway.
He continued to drive onto a dirt access road, which led him to a metal gate and concrete barrier.
Authorities determined that because of the impact, the man died from his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash is under investigation, and it's unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor. Althou
