CORALVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) - Seven teams took to Coral Ridge Mall on Saturday to build creations out of canned goods for Community Crisis Services’ second annual CANstruction competition.
All the cans will be donated to the Food Bank to help feed people who stand to lose their SNAP benefits .
Kyleigh Selepa led her team from the Iowa Heartlanders hockey team in can-structing a hockey goal with a matching hockey stick and puck.
“We felt it was really important right now with the pause coming on food stamps and snaps”, Selepa said. “We wanted to do something that donated directly to the food pantries”, she said.
Selepa’s creation alone will provide almost 900 cans of food to the CommUnity Crisis Services Food Bank.
Combined with the other structures, the teams donated over 5,000 cans.
