Srinagar, Nov 1: A court here Saturday sentenced former Managing Director of the JK Cooperative Central Land Development Bank Limited, Muhammad Shafi Banday, to two years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine for manipulating his date of birth to unlawfully extend his tenure of service.

City Judge Srinagar Abdul Bari awarded simple imprisonment of two years to Banday and imposed a Rs 5,000 fine on him after he was found guilty for the offences for, he was tried.

As per the prosecution, the case originated from a communication received by the Crime Branch Kashmir on October 15, 2012, alleging that Banday had shown his date of birth as September 1, 1939, instead of 1934, by producing a fudged certificate.
