Montreal’s packed sports weekend kicked off under a cloud of transit chaos Saturday as the city’s buses and métro ground to a halt.

At Percival Molson Stadium, the Alouettes kicked off their playoff game to a patchwork of thousands of empty seats. A spokesperson for the club, reached by The Gazette, said attendance figures were not yet available.

The transit stoppage hit on a busy day of sports around the city. The Canadiens, Alouettes, Laval Rocket, Carabins and Montreal Roses were all scheduled to play in Montreal or Laval on Saturday. A combined crowd of more than 60,000 fans is expected to move through a city with no bus or métro service.
